Cafe’s biggest flans in five hour standoff over quiche

It is the food which you furnish to your mind that determines the whole character of your life.”Emmet Fox

We’ve all had that mad craving for our favourite food, but how far would you go to get your hands on yours?

Two crooks in Northumberland went a step too far when they broke into a cafe to steal some of their much loved quiche.

But rather than grabbing a quick snack to go the thieves found themselves involved in a five hour standoff with police after barricading themselves inside Cafe@Marshall in Berwick-upon-Tweed.

Owner Angela Marshall was contacted by police at 1am saying there had been a break-in, but when she arrived there was around 15 police cars camped outside.

She believed they were hungry and wanted some of the cafe’s quiche, saying there was only a little money in the till.

The bumbling burglers became violent when they were disturbed by a passing patrol car and armed themselves with knives and forks.

After being convinced by two negotiators the two men aged 20 and 21 gave themselves up and were arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary.

Angela said: “It was like something you see on the telly, not something that happens in Berwick.”

Now we have a number of loyal customers but none have gone to such extremes to get their hands on our food.

What's the strangest story you have heard about people looking for their food fix?
